Magnum Semiconductor Announces Cost-Reduced Platforms for $99 DVD Recorders; New Chips and Platform Significantly Reduce the Bill of Material Cost

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 2005--Magnum Semiconductor, Inc. announced today a new chipset, designed to significantly lower the system cost of basic DVD recorder products, as well as providing improvements in system functionality.

"We are introducing a new chipset which can be used on a 2-layer, low-cost, Phenol PCB providing a significant cost reduction. The chipset is pin-for-pin and software-compatible with our current chipset, thereby enabling our customers to quickly and easily reap the benefits of this cost reduction."
