Magnum Semiconductor Advances its Lead in DVD Recorders with New Hard Disk Combo FeaturesOctober 13, 2005 10:26 PM EST FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 2005-- Magnum Semiconductor's DVD Recorder Platform Now Includes Support for Very Large Hard Disk Drives, Editing, and Play Lists' Functions Magnum Semiconductor, Inc. announced today that their DVD recorder platform now supports the recording of video onto hard disk drives (HDDs), up to 400GB in capacity, and provides the ability to edit video content and compose play lists with the flexibility in playback arrangements. The new platform enables consumers to collect content onto hard disk drives in a numbers of ways, including recording analog content directly, uploading personal CDs and DVDs, transferring movies from DV camcorders over built-in 1394 interfaces, and transferring content from a built-in flash card reader. Once the content is on the hard drive, consumers can easily remove unwanted content from videos with just a few clicks of a remote control. When the editing is complete, DVDs can be easily burned onto the optical drive, in faster than real-time, to provide archiving and portability for the audio/video content. "Magnum Semiconductor has been in the forefront of cost-effective HDD recording platforms for a number of years," says Brian Heuckroth, its vice president of marketing. "We believe that the HDD will have a major role in the consumer's video purchases, as it simplifies DVD recorder operations by providing a temporary storage with the HDD, and the ability to select vital content for archiving on DVD. As DVD recorders continue to be more affordable, the winning combination of HDD and DVD recording will become increasingly compelling." Magnum Semiconductor is currently providing this technology to its OEMs who can incorporate it as a software upgrade without any change to their hardware platforms. Magnum Semiconductor's chips, software and platforms have been supporting HDD recording since 2002.
