Magnum Semiconductor Announces Networked Video Recorders as Media CentersOctober 14, 2005 FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 14, 2005-- Magnum Semiconductor's Platform Extension Enables Consumers to Manage, Archive and Transfer Audio/Video Content throughout the Networked Home Magnum Semiconductor announced today that its popular DVD recorder platform now supports a networking extension and UPnP software, enabling consumers to transfer and stream audio/video content between PCs and recorders. This platform includes networking application software from L-Square, Inc., a California-based software design house and supports the requirements of the Digital Living Room Network Alliance. "Magnum Semiconductor has been developing networking extensions to its video platforms for several years, as we believe consumers will wish to add entertainment to their home networks once their PCs are networked," commented Brian Heuckroth, its vice president of marketing. "As the demand for hard disk drives in recorders increases, consumers will require the sharing of content throughout their homes. Rising interests are evident in acquiring video-on-demand; our new platform permits consumers to play that content on their televisions. "In working closely with Magnum Semiconductor, L-Square is striving to provide state-of-the-art, low-cost solutions for the networked digital home," states Li Chen, CEO of L-Square Technology. "With our lightweight media server, our solution is UPnP and DLNA compatible. With our experience in UPnP, it's easy to implement any other entertainment network standards." Magnum Semiconductor is providing this technology to its OEMs as a daughter card that plugs into existing DVD recorder platforms, and a system software upgrade.
