Magnum provides a complete line of Encoders, Transcoders, and Decoders for Broadcast Servers, and coprocessors and SoCs for Living Room Clients
Magnum provides a complete line of Encoders, Transcoders, and Decoders chipsets and manufacturable reference design for Broadcast Servers, as well as coprocessors and SoCs for Living Room Clients.
The company's family of broadcast encoders and transcoders offer a single architecture for all broadcast applications including production, contribution, and distribution equipment. Magnum is the only semiconductor company that harnesses the rich video compression technology from broadcast to provide compression-enabled living room set-top boxes, opening a host of possibilities for download-to-portable and personal broadcasting. Magnum's video compression and video processing technologies allow service providers to achieve maximum video quality at the industry's lowest bitrates, optimizing storage and transmission costs.

Nitro2 Reference Platform
Magnum's Nitro2 platform is a PCI-based development platform for the DX22XX family. The Linux 2.6-based Coda 9.1 software provides a complete SDK for Blu-ray and DVD recorder Decoder coprocessor applications, including APIs for faster than real-time transcode for download-to-mobile, dynamic changes of bitrate, framerate, and resolution, and various transcoding scenarios from and to any hardware-supported codec.
The DX6215 is the latest state-of-the-art single chip HD/SD transcoder codec (transcodec) co-processor. It produces best-of-class video quality by leveraging advanced H.264 High/Main Profile interlaced tools like MBAFF. Through advanced transcoding capabilities the DX6215 enables a host of time-shifting, place-shifting and device-shifting features in set-top box appliances, effectively turning these into media servers or gateways for whole home video and audio services. Designed as an add-on co-processor, the DX6215 allows set-top box OEMs and broadcast service providers to roll-out set-top box solutions with advanced PVR and media server features, thereby extending their revenue streams.
For whole home PVR applications the DX6215 uses broadcast-like statmux technology, dynamic variation of resolution, frame rate and other encoder parameters to adjust output bit rates dynamically to overcome link bandwidth fluctuations in a typical home environment.
The high-efficiency DX62xx drastically reduces bit rates to allow for cost-effective Flash-based storage of SD and HD video streams for mobile devices. Now it is possible to transfer PVR content to a mobile media player in faster than real-time for on-the-go viewing convenience.
The DX6215 supports decoding of up to two 1080i streams or one 1080p60 H.264 or MPEG-2 stream. It can perform H.264 or MPEG-2 encode of up to two standard-definition streams or one 1080i stream. The DX6215 can transcode HD video from MPEG-2, VC-1 or H.264 to H.264 or MPEG-2 HD video in real-time and supports faster than real-time transcoding of SD MPEG-2 video streams to SD H.264 streams. Other encoder features include VBR and CBR rate control.
