Sonata-ERReference Design

Sonata-ER is a reference design that enables fast development of DVD recorders. Sonata-ER offers all the features of a traditional VCR, plus: DVD playback, random access to recordings, no rewinding of tape, superior video quality, commercial skipping, and simple video editing.

Sonata-ER combines the power of the MS82XX and MS83XX DVD Processor families with the MS268X DVD Encoder family.

Sonata-ER supports DVD+/-RW/-RAM recordable technology and supports all the major copy protection schemes in use today for DVD recorders such as Macrovision, CSS, and CPRM.

By integrating advanced MPEG-2 features, such as support for both frame and field prediction, Variable Bitrate Recording (VBR), and proprietary rate control algorithms, Sonata-ER provides excellent video quality at both low and high bit rates.
